Approach by Train
Aachen is connected to the international rail network. The high-speed train THALYS runs every two hours between Paris and Cologne via Aachen. In addition, ICE trains run from Frankfurt to Brussels via Aachen. There are direct rail connections to the cities of Berlin, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Siegen, Frankfurt/Main and Hamm. Aachen is connected to the Dutch rail network with an hourly connection to Heerlen.

Approach by car
Coming from the A4 from Cologne
Take the Aachen-Laurensberg exit, after the exit turn right onto Kohlscheider Straße, direction Aachen. Follow the road (keep left at the 2nd traffic light, continue on Roermonder Straße) until the end of the road (Ponttor). There turn right onto Pontwall, follow the road (Turmstrasse, Junkerstrasse, Schanz, Boxgraben) straight ahead until you reach Mozartstrasse. Turn right there, follow the road until you pass under a railroad bridge, after which Hohenstaufenallee starts on the right or Goethestrasse straight ahead.
Coming from the A4 from the direction of Vaals (NL)
Take the exit Aachen-Laurensberg, after the exit turn right into Kohlscheider Straße, direction Aachen. Continue as described in the previous paragraph.
Coming from the A44 from Düsseldorf
At the freeway junction Aachen continue in the direction of Lüttich. Take the second exit after the freeway junction Aachen – Aachen-Lichtenbusch (last exit before the Belgian border). After the exit turn right onto Monschauer Straße (L233) in the direction of Aachen. Follow the road until the 1st intersection. There turn left into Siegelallee. At the first traffic light turn half right into Salierallee. At the next intersection, drive straight ahead into Weißhausstraße. Follow the road straight ahead, pass under the railroad bridge and continue straight ahead until you reach the next traffic circle. The first exit on the right is Goethestrasse, follow this street to the end. At the road junction, the FH building at Goethestrasse 1 is on the right and the FH building at Hohenstaufenallee 6 is diagonally opposite on the left.
Coming from the A44 from Belgium
Exit Lichtenbusch (first exit after passing the German border), turn left onto Monschauer Straße (L233) towards Aachen. Continue as described in the previous paragraph.
FYI: From Aachen to ISSOTL23 (Utrecht)
We know that quite a few participants plan to travel on to the ISSOTL Conference in Utrecht.
We will try to provide a transfer shuttle to Heerlen on Tuesday late afternoon, then it will be only a 2 hour train ride.
From Aachen by train it is more like 3 hours, depending on the connection.
Travel Route from Aachen to Utrecht by train:
- From Aachen to Heerlen (RE 18)
- Change train in Heerlen into Intercity to Utrecht Centraal via Eindhoven.
